 Helena Czaban,
Office and Employee Experience Manager

What is your role at Mersive and what do you do?
I am the Office and Employee Experience Manager at Mersive. As an employee experience manager, my goal is to promote and create a positive and rewarding environment where people can succeed. Employee experience can take on many forms within the employee lifecycle. My main focuses are employee sentiment, our physical space, and learning and development. I partner with my team on things like performance management, onboarding, and organizational effectiveness.

Before working at Mersive, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Mersive is my first corporate job! I was a teacher, a bartender, a hotel hostess, and an AmeriCorps volunteer before joining Mersive. My first job sticks out to me: I hosted “makeover” birthday parties at a kids-only hair salon, Snip-its. We would do makeup, up-dos, and a runway at the end.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Mersive, whose job would you want?
Hmmm. This is a tough one because I love my job here. Perhaps, I’d like to try out Kerry Filkins’ job, the Director of Field and Channel Marketing. I know there is so much more than trade shows but I love event planning and traveling (when we can). I have a lot of respect for how well she handles all of those moving pieces.

People would be surprised if they knew what about you.
I had never been to Colorado before I moved here. I showed up with a car full of stuff, a month’s worth of cash, a three week sublet, and no job. I did find a new apartment and job within that short amount of time! It was the scariest and bravest thing I have ever done. It showed me what I am capable of.

What did you want to be when growing up?
Oddly enough, I wanted to be a lawyer as young as fourth grade! I have always had a passion for arguing and helping people – two things a lawyer can often do best.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
A New Yorker turned Coloradan – I do love waking up on a Saturday to a hike then following up with a craft beer in the mountains or a Red Rocks show. However, you can just as easily find me studying for my newest learning endeavor or binge watching TV.

What places have you lived in?
I grew up in the Capital Region of Upstate New York and went to college in Central New York. I served in AmeriCorps for 10 months, traveling and living with a team of 12 on the West Coast. We lived for short periods of time in California, Washington, and Nevada. Denver is the only place other than New York that I have lived for an extended period of time.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?
I think the most impactful innovation I have witnessed would be the smartphone. Our consistent access to information and each other has changed how we communicate and how we research, teach, and think.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
Carry yourself with positivity and dignity; you never know who is watching or what opportunities they may consider you for in the future. Nurture mentoring relationships and learn all that you can! Also, stay hydrated and use sunscreen!

Would you rather be a tiny elephant or a giant hamster?
I would totally be a tiny elephant – who doesn’t want to play with a tiny elephant?!

What advice do you have for prospective Mersive candidates?
My best advice would be to reach out to our people and find out about our culture – if you like what you hear then apply! We are a great place for self-directed, intelligent, hardworking individuals. Our people are our greatest asset.

What are your hopes for our industry?
Software is a powerful tool that can enhance how we work together and develop the world we live in. My hope is that we continue to create human-centered technology with a balanced approach and make it more accessible to all.

Favorite perk at Mersive?
My favorite perk at Mersive is the frequent events we invest in to connect our employees. I may be a bit biased here as I facilitate many of them. However, it is awesome to be supported in taking time to spend time with coworkers in a social environment. I love connecting with everyone, learning about what they are working on and celebrating wins together.
